L to R:  Diego Mora, Paige Bell, Michelle Duay, Frank Gautier and Zack
Perry.

BB&T Sports Complex, Bermuda Run, NC:  The Developmental Academy East
Regional Showcase was hosted on October 25th – 28th for U-13 and U-14 Boys.
South Carolina sent five (5) talented and available referees after informing
ARA’s (area referee administrators) and inviting a substantial number of
qualified South Carolina referees.

Those grassroots referees attending were Paige Bell and Diego Mora of Rock
Hill, Michelle Duay and Zach Perry of the Mid-State and Frank Gautier of
Charleston.

Also, in attendance one of our own national referee coaches of Bluffton, SC,
Brian Fenlon.  Brian relocated from New Jersey earlier this year.

The weekend began with 0800 Friday morning orientation and training.
National referee coaches were on hand, for every match, to “provide reality
based formal instruction and mentoring” on the fields and “to support match
officials in achieving their full potential.”  US Soccer, also, sends the
Referee Department staff from Chicago, to include Rick Eddy, the Director of
Referee Development to observe, mentor and identify talent capable of
increased challenges and opportunities.

This is an annual four (4) day event in the Winston-Salem area that provides
excellent training and exposure for dedicated grassroots and regional
referees.
